A Review of Studies on the Relationship between Transport Infrastructure Investments
and Economic Growth
The author reviews published studies about the relationship at the macro-economic level between public infrastructure capital and economic growth. An extensive literature has developed in North America, since the controversial work of Aschauer in 1989 suggested a growing deficiency in public capital spending. The review describes the development of methodologies and empirical estimates in the U.S. and Canada and suggests some policy implications of the findings.
