Canada Transportation Act
Review Panel's "Issues Under Consideration"
Released on January 19, 2001
The document "Issues Under Consideration" has been
developed by the CTA Review Panel in order to highlight the key issues being
examined by the Panel. It also serves to provide a focus for ongoing
discussions with interested parties in preparation for the final report to
be completed by June 30, 2001.
The CTA Review Panel was appointed by the Minister of Transport to
undertake a comprehensive review of the Canada Transportation Act and
related legislation. While much of the focus during the first half of the
mandate has been on rail access, the Panel has also conducted research, and
has sought and received comments on the other elements of its mandate
dealing with all modes of transportation such as:
- Emerging industry structures
- Sustainability of capital investments
- Sustainable development and the environment
- Preservation of urban rail corridors
- Transport in an era of e-business and global logistics
- Accessible transportation for persons with disabilities
The Panel invites further public input on the "Issues under
Consideration" through its Web site.
